About Us
Founded in 1994, Evensong Music started out as a way for me to publish my own music without the hassles of dealing with large publishing companies. Evensong distrubutes music for composers, but unlike a traditional publisher, we allow the composer to retain ownership of their music and we return one half of the net profit (what remains after printing costs) to the composer. We believe that composers should be able to have more say over what happens to their music! As we begin 2009, it's interesting to see how our focus has expanded over the years! In the beginning, it was just my music - then we began to slowly add composers, and focused on accessible service music. Then came the addition of the reprints, and now we are expanding to have more concert music and a more international flavor. We were very pleased last year to be offered the privilege of publishing Henry Martin's Preludes and Fugues for organ, the first 2 of which were premiered at the 2008 AGO convention in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota USA.
NEW! Henri Mulet's Final Four (the last 4 organ works of Mulet, edited by Stephen Best)
I am happy to report that we have just added composers Roland van den Berg, Leonardo Ciampa and Andrea Amici. We will be distributing Leonardo and Andrea's music, and you will be able to access ordering either from our site or from their company's site Consortium Internationale Compositorum. CIC will eventually add a number of European composers to their roster, and will likely handle that part of our business, since Andrea lives in Italy and Leonardo has many contacts there as well. Visit our Organ Music page to access our composer's pages. Also, do note we have a substantial and continually growing Reprint catalog, which contains mostly French music that has passed into the Public Domain.
On this site you will find several sections, each devoted to a different instrument or area of composition. There are links for full-length audio files and preview pages of many of the pieces, as well as some links to take you to my personal site and favorite links. There are also organ sample sets for Milan Digital Audio's Hauptwerk.
Enjoy your visit, and stop by frequently to see what's new!
Best wishes,
- Jonathan Orwig
