Stephen Best (b.1946) has been Minister of Music at First Presbyterian Church, Utica, New York, where he presides over a 62 rank Casavant organ which has provided an inspiring framework for his organ compositions. Steve is also Lecturer in Organ and Keyboard at Hamilton College, where is also Coordinator of Individual Performance Instruction. Perhaps his greatest love is organ teaching at First Church, where he regularly teaches 20 to 25 students ranging in age from early teens of late 80's, rejoicing especially in passing on his love the organ to enthusiastic high school students. Most of Steve's organ pieces are an outgrowth of interaction with his students, who have often given first performances of his works. Other premier performances have been given by Christopher Herrick, Philippe Lefebvre, and Cameron Carpenter. Steve may be reached HERE.
